Stay up to 90 days

For stays of less than 90 days, upon arrival at the airport, you will receive a stamp in your passport with the Schengen Short-Stay Visa, also known as C-Visa, which allows you to stay in Malta for up to 90 days.

Make sure to meet these requirements to get your stamp in your passport without any problems:

• Valid passport with at least 3 months of validity.
• Acceptance letter from the school where you will be studying.
• Take out medical insurance for the total duration of your stay in Malta, with coverage of at least €30,000.
• Have a accommodation reservation for the total duration of your stay.
• Have a plane ticket to leave Malta at the end of the 90 days.
• Show that you have sufficient funds to cover your expenses in Malta.

Stay over 90 days

For stays longer than 90 days, you will have to apply for a student visa once you are in Malta. Thus, upon landing in Malta, you will receive the Schengen Short-Stay Visa (C-Visa), and after 30 days, you can apply for the student visa that will allow you to stay in Malta for a maximum of 365 days.

If your studies last more than 365 days, you will have to apply for a Residence Permit before your student visa expires.

The requirements to obtain the student visa are:

• Valid passport with at least 3 months of validity.
• 2 ID-sized photos.
• Acceptance letter from the school.
• Proof of payment to the school.
• Proof of accommodation reservation.
• Complete the visa application form.
• Medical insurance for the total duration of your stay with coverage of at least €30,000.
• Flight out of Malta that matches the end of the course.
• Show that you have enough money to cover your expenses in Malta (€784.7 per month).

Spring in Malta starts in March and ends in May. March is usually a rainy month, but in April, the dry air that smells like summer begins to fill the air. Temperatures are moderate, reaching up to 23°C during the hottest hours of the day.

Autumn in Malta runs from September to November. During these months, the temperature starts to be slightly lower. That’s why September is another ideal month to enjoy outdoor walks, explore the countryside, roam cities without crowds, and take a dip in the sea.

During the months of October and December, windy and rainy days become more frequent, signaling the arrival of winter.

Winter in Malta lasts from December to February, and although we can’t say it’s cold, we can say it “cools down.” During these months, temperatures rarely rise above 18°C, and at night, they drop to around 10°C. Rain is frequent, and the sky is often overcast, tinting the turquoise blue waters of the coast for which Malta is well known.
