How to validate your pharmacist degree in Australia?

To validate your pharmacist degree in Australia you will have to pass an evaluation process by the APC (Australian Parmacy Council). Below we explain the requirements and steps you will have to meet to pass this evaluation:

Request an eligibility assessment by APC (Australian Pharmacy Council)

To complete the application for an APC evaluation you will need to provide the following documents:

  • Personal identification (original and valid passport and passport size photograph taken in the last 6 months).
  • Academic qualifications (certificate of original title in pharmacy and original academic record).
  • Evidence of registration (initial registration as a pharmacist in your country of origin and official letter confirming your professional status in your country of origin).
  • Work experience (curriculum vitae and original work reference templates).

Once the documents described have been sent you will have to pay $ 1.190 AUD as a fee for your evaluation.

Once you submit all the documentation and pay the evaluation fee, the APC will review your application to confirm that you are indeed eligible to validate your pharmacy degree. As part of the process, they will verify the validity and content of your application, as well as the documents that you have attached to your application.
It usually takes 8 weeks to approve your request from the date of receipt.

Confirmation and approval of your request

Once your application has been processed, you will be sent by email to confirm that you are indeed eligible to validate your pharmacy degree in Australia.
If eligible, they will include in that email the instructions to request the corresponding exam that you will have to pass in order to validate your pharmacist's degree in Australia.

Examen

Depending on the result of your evaluation you will have to perform two types of exam; the one corresponding to section A or the one corresponding to section B.

Those in section A will have to apply for and pass the KAOS assessment examination at a cost of $ 1.950 AUD per attempt.

Those corresponding to section B will have to present and pass the proficiency assessment exam for pharmacists abroad (CAOP) at a cost of $ 1.750 AUD per attempt.

Test results

If you successfully pass the exam, you will receive an email confirming your results and a hard copy of your skills assessment letter that will be mailed to you. If you live outside Australia it will take 4 to 6 weeks to send it to you.

Supervised practices

Once you have passed the exam, you will have to do a supervised internship period to be able to request general registration as a pharmacist in Australia. Candidates in section B will have to do a shorter internship period. That the candidates of section A.

Both will have to send the registration request for supervised practices as a pharmacist.

After completing at least 75% of the supervised practices, candidates will have to submit their application for approval in order to subsequently request general registration as a pharmacist in Australia.
