There are many reasons that make Ireland one of the main destinations for students from all over the world who want to live abroad for a while to improve their English while working. Do you want to know why? We’ll tell you.
Ireland is very well connected with Europe, but also with the rest of the world. Its proximity to London airports will allow you to travel wherever you want at a good price and with ease, whether you want to visit other corners of Europe or go back home for Christmas.
Both in the service sector and in qualified positions, Ireland has a very wide job offer. It’s no wonder, because it is called the Silicon Valley of Europe for a reason. And indeed, for some years now, Ireland has been becoming a strong economic power, which brings a high demand for workers. In addition, Ireland has a fairly high minimum wage, €1,774.5 per month.
Ireland is a land of Celtic culture where, among its forests and streets, stories are told about fantastic beings such as fairies, goblins, or Leprechauns—the latter may sound familiar to you as little goblins with red beards, green clothing, and striped socks. In addition, once you are there you will be able to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day like any other local.
Being exposed to the language all day and having the possibility of practicing it in everything you do during your day will make the experience even more fun and help you improve your English much faster.
As we said before, Ireland is a country with a lot of history inherited from all the peoples that have passed through it throughout history, which is why there are many castles all over the territory. A territory that also has natural landscapes such as the Cliffs of Moher, which will take your breath away as soon as you see them.
The Irish people have a reputation for being very kind, gentle, and approachable. So you will feel very well welcomed by them at all times.
Studying English in Ireland and working has many advantages, and one of them is that they are internationally recognized qualifications that you can study at prestigious schools.
There are programs of all kinds for you to choose the one that best suits your level and objectives, but the most popular among other students who come to Ireland are the following:
For all those in a hurry to master the language, the intensive program is ideal. In 2 or 3 months you will be able to reach the level you are looking for, and once finished you will be able to focus on other things such as traveling or working, something that will be much more difficult to combine during the course. These courses usually have a more condensed schedule, with about 30 hours of classes per week.
A program designed for you to learn to handle the language in classes of 15 or 20 hours per week. The courses can last from one week to as long as you want, but the most common is to take them for a minimum of three months. In them you will share class with people who are at your same level. The best thing about this program is that you will be able to study English without stress while discovering everything the country has to offer. This is one of the English courses in Ireland for adults available in the country.
Degrees are not everything, but in many cases they are important. That is why many students take the opportunity to study a program that prepares them to pass exams such as IELTS or Cambridge. During this course you will practice all those exercises you will see in your exam so that on the day you sit for it you can solve it without problems.

These are English courses more focused on the professional field. Their program places a lot of emphasis on concepts in commercial areas such as marketing or more general ones such as international economy and politics. The goal is to have an adequate knowledge of the language to function perfectly in a professional situation.
If you are someone with a tight schedule or who prefers to go at your own pace, focusing on everything you find difficult, this is your course. Totally personalized, in this program you set the pace, and although its price is somewhat higher, it is definitely worth it.
Ireland has a lot to see and, above all, to offer. Although its capital Dublin has one of the main technological hubs in the world with companies like Facebook, it is not the only city with interesting attractions. Let’s go over the most important ones:
It is the largest city in Ireland and its capital. But unlike other world capitals, Dublin is not only important at the economic and political level but also is one of the most beautiful and emblematic cities on the island.
It is very well connected both internally and externally with other cities in the country through a bus and train network.
Despite having changing weather with light rain almost all the time, as in most of the country, Dublin is one of the cities with the best climate compared to others in Irish territory.
At the labor level, it is the nerve center of many technological hubs, so there is a wide range of employment. There are also good job opportunities in less qualified jobs, especially in the service sector. All this, together with the lively nightlife offered by the cosmopolitan city, makes studying English in Dublin and working one of the favorite options for many students who want to improve the language and live the Irish experience while covering their stay in the country.
In Cork are located the European headquarters of many important companies such as Apple, Pepsi, and Amazon. It is a city with a lot of business activity with factories, clothing stores… which makes it a city with many job offers that you can find in Facebook groups, websites, or employment agencies.
It is a small city, which also makes it more accessible both in terms of accommodation and in terms of moving around the city.
It is located on the southwest coast of Ireland and has one of the most prestigious universities in Europe, University College Cork.
It is located in central Ireland, in the province of Munster. Along with Galway, it is one of the most cultural cities in the country, and many artists and cultural events converge there throughout the year. That artistic atmosphere can be felt in all its streets, both in the murals and in the music heard on every corner. If you are a lover of a rich and varied cultural offer, Limerick is your destination.
Also one of the most cultural cities in the country, where you can lose yourself in its museums and galleries. It is the third most populated city in Ireland and offers its inhabitants a very wide variety of craft beers and good leisure plans.
There is a multicultural and diverse university atmosphere, and its environmental policies make Galway a city with a very good quality of life.
If you want to travel to Ireland to study and work, the requirements you will be asked for will depend on your nationality. For example, if you have a European passport you will not need any type of visa, while if you come from Colombia, Ecuador, or Peru, you will.
In addition, if your nationality belongs to a Latin American country, the length of time you intend to spend in the country will also be a determining factor.
At Dingoos we are experts in helping other students travel abroad, so we have prepared a classification depending on your nationality. But if you still have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact our Dingoos Guides—they will know how to advise you and help you in a totally personalized way. Let’s get started!

Depending on your nationality you may or may not need a study and work visa in Ireland.
As we mentioned earlier, if you are a citizen of the European Union or have a Swiss passport, you’ve got it made! You won’t need any type of visa to study and work in Ireland, so you can start thinking about which course you want to choose or where to live, without worrying at all about applying for visas.
You will only need to have your European Health Card to be able to receive health care in the country.
If your passport is Chilean, Mexican, or Argentine, you will not need to apply for a visa to study and work in Ireland before traveling to the country.
Upon arrival, your passport will be stamped with a tourist visa, and after 90 days of your stay in the country you will be able to apply for the IRP (Irish Residence Permit) to be able to combine studies and work in Ireland. It is a card that accredits you as a registered immigrant in the country, which carries your name, biometric data, and allows you to work 20 hours per week during the duration of your course and full-time during holidays.
To apply for it you will need to show proof of residence, such as a rental contract, and that your course lasts longer than 90 days.
Likewise, you will need to have health insurance that covers your entire stay in Ireland.
In the case of Chilean and Argentine nationalities, they will also have the option to study and work in Ireland with the Working Holiday Visa. Take a look at our page on visa types in Ireland for more information.
Citizens with a passport from any of these nationalities will indeed need to apply for a visa before traveling to Ireland.
The visa that allows these nationalities to combine studies and work is the student visa, and to obtain it they will need to meet the following requirements:
Once in the country and after the first 90 days, they will be able to apply for the IRP (Irish Residence Permit) to be able to work in Ireland part-time while the course lasts and full-time during the holiday period.
Like the rest of nationalities that do not belong to the European Union, they will have to take out health insurance that covers the entire duration of their stay in Ireland.
