From the most Instagrammable spots like the Blue Mountains or Port Campbell National Park, to unique places like Nambung National Park or the Great Barrier Reef. Australia will leave you breathless with every natural wonder you visit, where you’ll find totally unique species like the Dingoes.

Or better said, Aussies, are friendly, laid-back, and very good-natured. You can always count on their help, and they’ll make you feel at home from the moment you arrive.
One of the reasons why Australia is the favorite destination for those who want to study and work at the same time is that by enrolling in an English or VET course, you can access the student visa, which allows you to do both things at once.
We’ve compiled all the courses you can study in Australia, and below we explain the differences between them.
If what you want is to learn English perfectly, Australia is a great place to do it, and you have different types of programs for that:

VET courses are vocational courses, similar to vocational training in other parts of the world, and the career opportunities they offer are quite interesting. To apply, you’ll need to have an intermediate level of English, but if you don’t have that level, don’t worry, you can study an English course alongside and apply for the student visa that way.
VET qualifications are highly valued by Australian companies but also worldwide, so if you’re looking to end up working in what you love in the country, these courses are perfect for you. This is why many foreign and Australian students apply for these programs, as they are the ideal gateway to university or the job market in the country.
If you want to know more about these in-demand courses, don’t miss our page about VET courses in Australia.
Similar to VET courses, TAFE courses have a large practical component in their educational program. They last between 2-12 months for certificates and 12 to 18 months for diplomas.
TAFE courses focus on more technical preparation and are quite demanding since they are offered by public schools coordinated by the Australian government.
But if what you’re looking for is to be a student at an Australian university, you can also enroll to pursue a degree or a master’s. However, you’ll need to have at least a C1 level of English, otherwise, you’ll be totally lost in class.
To access, you’ll need to present your degree, your transcript in English, your CV, and possibly even a motivation letter.
Now that you might already have a clear idea of which course suits you best, you’ll need to choose your destination city.
We, the Dingoos, have been in Australia for some time, so we’ll tell you the strengths and advantages of each of the Aussie cities, so depending on what you’re looking for, you can start thinking about which one suits you best.
It’s much more than the Opera House; living in Sydney means sharing the city with thousands of people from all corners of the world, a cosmopolitan city with an unbeatable cultural and entertainment offer. It has over 100 beaches where you can swim almost all year round due to its great weather. Sydney receives a lot of tourism, so there is a large job offer in the tourism sector.
The city of culture, the coolest and most cosmopolitan nightlife. Unlike Sydney, Melbourne doesn’t have beaches, but it does have many important sports events throughout the year. It’s a city that’s never boring, even in the weather, because in one single day you can experience all four seasons.
The most laid-back city in Australia, easy-going, the clearest example of Aussie life. Surrounded by stunning beaches, very good weather, and the surf capital par excellence. All these factors make it one of the favorite cities for students, with a large Latin and Brazilian community. Gold Coast has a more defined tourist season than other cities, so contracts are often more temporary.
Brisbane is located less than 80km from Gold Coast, and while it may not be the first choice for many, it’s a city that offers a very good quality of life, with very different neighborhoods and many options for studying and working. It’s not as touristy as Gold Coast, but ideal for everyday life.
On the west coast, we find these two cities with great weather and beautiful beaches: Noosa and Sunshine Coast. They are cities very focused on tourism, so the job offers in the area are mainly for that sector. Basically, the perfect definition of “paradise.”
Byron Bay is a small, pretty laid-back town where thousands of international students decide to live to learn English at a relaxed pace and disconnect from everything. It has a very interesting entertainment offer and great beaches for surfing or scuba diving.
Perth has movie-like neighborhoods, is surrounded by nature, and has very good schools. This city is the major capital of the western part of the country, with fewer international students, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in Australian culture.
Cairns is a very Aussie city, small, with job and entertainment offers. Its main attraction is its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef, and many tours leave from there to visit it. It’s ideal for vocational courses that focus primarily on spending time in nature.
Adelaide is one of the largest cities in Australia, and it has not stopped growing in recent years, making the job offers quite interesting. That’s why many students are finding their destination there, especially those who want to stay in Australia for a longer period.
Hobart is the oldest city in Australia, the perfect mix of city and nature. Surrounded by beaches, forests, mountains, and natural reserves, it’s ideal for living a peaceful life. It’s one of the cheapest cities in the country, but it also has the coldest temperatures, so if you prefer the cold over the heat, this is your destination.
On the other hand, if you’re looking to escape completely from the cold, Darwin could be your city. It’s the most populated city in northern Australia, with a tropical dry climate, so it gets quite hot in the summer. But don’t worry, you won’t suffer from heatstroke because it rains quite a lot in the summer.
Although there are many types of visas to travel to Australia, the most used ones that allow you to study and work in Australia at the same time are: the Student Visa and the Work & Holiday Visa, and we’ll tell you everything you need to know about them.
This is the easiest to obtain, as it doesn’t require a specific level of English or age. To get it, you need to enroll in a course like the ones we saw earlier, with a minimum duration of three months. The permit will last as long as the course plus a vacation period. Also, you can work part-time during classes and full-time during holidays. The fee for this visa application is $2,000 AUD.
Unlike the previous one, the W&H Visa does have an age limit, a maximum of 30 years, and also requires a minimum English level of 4.5 in IELTS. It allows you to work full-time for one year and study for up to six months. The downside is that you can only apply for it once in your life. The fee for this visa is $670 AUD.
