Thus, while studying in Australia, you can enjoy services like dental check-ups and physiotherapy, chiropractic, or podiatry consultations without out-of-pocket expenses, up to the annual visit limits.

  • Dental check-up (1 annual visit)
  • Physiotherapy, chiropractic, and/or podiatry consultations (3 annual visits)
  • Bonus dollars: $50 AUD for singles and $100 AUD for couples (1 visit per year)
  • Bupa Optical: $50 voucher (1 visit per year)
  • Telephone consultations with Bupa dietitians (2 visits per year)

What to do if I get sick in Australia?

Bupa makes it very easy! It all depends on whether it is an emergency or not.

If it’s not an emergency, locate your nearest doctor and book an appointment by phone or online. The doctor will see you in person and determine if you need medication or a referral to a specialist. Remember to arrive 15-20 minutes early to complete the documents requested by the doctor!

If it is an emergency, call the ambulance service directly by dialing 000.

Do you want to take out your OSHC health insurance with Bupa?

If everything you’ve read sounds good to you, it might be time to take out your OSHC insurance. At Dingoos, we have an agreement with Bupa that allows you to enjoy all its benefits:

Frequently Asked Questions

You’re sure to have lots of questions when taking out Bupa’s OSHC insurance. That’s what we’re here for, to help you and provide the answers you’re looking for!

Icono

If I join, when will my coverage start?

The student visa requires you to have coverage from the day you arrive in Australia, but you will need to take out your insurance before coming as a requirement to apply for the student visa.

If you are still in your home country when you take out your OSHC insurance, you will be asked to specify your arrival date. That date will mark the start of your coverage. If you need to change this date, you can call toll-free at 1800 888 942 (if you are in Australia) or +61 3 9937 4223 (if calling from outside Australia).

Icono

How do I know which OSHC dates to select?

The start date should be the day you arrive in Australia. If you’re unsure when your course begins, you can select a start date up to 28 days before your course starts.

If you are switching courses or want to change OSHC providers and are considering Bupa, choose the day after your current OSHC expires.

Remember that your OSHC coverage must cover the entire duration of your student visa.

Icono

What if I get sick and still don’t have my Bupa card?

If you need medical treatment when you arrive in Australia but haven’t yet received your Bupa card, you will need to pay for your treatment upfront and then file a claim. Once you do, Bupa will reimburse the treatment amount according to your OSHC insurance.

Icono

When should I pay my premium?

International students must have OSHC coverage for the entire duration of their student visa. Therefore, you will need to pay the price upfront to cover the entire period of the visa you are applying for.

Icono

What if my OSHC expires?

If your OSHC coverage expires, you will not be covered for treatment or services. You would also violate your student visa, which could cause a problem. Illnesses and accidents can happen unexpectedly, and without coverage, hospital and medical care without insurance can be very expensive in Australia.

Icono

Does my OSHC cover me outside of Australia?

No, your OSHC only covers medical and hospital treatment while you are in Australia. If you travel to a nearby country, such as New Zealand, you will need to take out specific travel insurance.

Icono

What if my brother or sister wants to come with me during my study period?

Your OSHC insurance does not cover other family members. In this case, they would need their own student visa and OSHC insurance. If they come just for a visit, other types of insurance are available, but they would need to take them out themselves.

Icono

Does my Bupa OSHC insurance include services like dental, podiatry, chiropractic, or physiotherapy?

No, the standard OSHC policy in Australia does not cover these auxiliary services. To enjoy them, you will need to take out the additional OSHC Extras coverage.

How do I request my Bupa OSHC membership card?

If you take out your Bupa OSHC insurance with Dingoos through this page, you won’t have to worry about anything. Your Dingoos integrator will help you request your Bupa OSHC membership card.

If this is not your case, when you arrive in Australia, the first thing you need to do to request your card is to go to the myBupa website and update your address:

  • Log in to myBupa
  • Then click on the “Cover” option you will find in the Home Page menu
  • Then click on ‘Order a membership card’
  • Enter your details or verify that the existing ones are correct
  • Select “Order” and that’s it
