How to Write a Resume to Find a Job Abroad

Today, we're going to show you how to write a resume to find a job abroad (and maximize your chances of landing one).

Let us guess—you’ve probably heard amazing things about job opportunities in a foreign country. Maybe you feel stuck in life and need a change of scenery, perhaps you’ve recently lost your job and want to reinvent yourself, or maybe you’ve been searching for something within you and believe that the best way to find it is by going abroad.

Whatever your reasons, as long as you’re not running from the law, you deserve a round of applause. And here’s the best part: there’s a place for you in Australia, Canada, Dubai, Ireland, Malta, or the United Kingdom. Seriously. Of course, you’ll need a great resume—but that’s where we come in, and that’s why you’re reading this. Go for it!

General Tips for Writing a Resume in the Anglo-Saxon Style

Just like in the European Union or Latin America, Anglo-Saxon countries follow a specific resume format. So, it’s crucial that you present your CV in this style when applying for jobs in Australia, Canada, Dubai, Ireland, Malta, or the UK.

Take note of these key tips to craft the perfect resume for these countries.

These countries have strict anti-discrimination policies regarding gender, nationality, or age. Therefore, some details should not be included in your resume. This is crucial—otherwise, your impressive CV might end up as a paper airplane, and that’s not what we want.

  • Do not include a photo.
  • Do not mention your country of origin, age, or marital status.
  • Keep it concise—ideally one page. Less is more!
  • Write it in perfect English.
  • Tailor your resume for each job. Focus on relevant experience and highlight key skills required for the position you’re applying for.

The Resume Structure: 6 Key Sections

Here’s a breakdown of how to create an Anglo-Saxon-style resume with the six essential sections:

  • Personal Details: Start with your basic information: name, address, mobile number, and email.
  • Key Strengths: Highlight your most relevant skills. Some are general, like hard worker or able to work as part of a team, but you should also include job-specific skills.
  • Availability: State your availability (weekdays, weekends, both…) and how soon you can start.
  • Employment History: List your work experience from most recent to oldest. Include company names, job titles, and, most importantly, your duties in each role. Keep it brief and focus only on relevant experience.
  • Education and Training: Mention any certificates required for the job (RSA, Blue Card, Food Safety Certificate, etc.) and your most significant academic achievements (degree, master’s, etc.).
  • Referees: Provide contact details of references who can vouch for you. Include their name, position, company, phone number, and country.
