When will Australia open its borders for students?
Confirmed: international students will be the first to return to Australia. International education is a key factor for the Australian economy, and for the same reason, in numerous press conferences, both the Australian Prime Minister and the Minister of Immigration have mentioned that allowing access to international students is among their priorities and that borders will be opened for them as soon as it is safe to do so.
Although the Australian government has not yet given an exact date for the opening of borders for international studentsThey are working on a pilot program in which, for example, they allowed access to 350 international students from the University of Canberra. The hypothesis is being considered that the opening of borders will be done in a staggered manner, allowing the access of international students who come from countries with low Covid rates such as New Zealand, China, Japan or Korea (also due to a proximity issue) and that in a second phase, it is extended to countries in Western Europe and Latin America as the cases of infected continue to remit.
For now, from Dingoos, we are recommending our students to organize their study plans from January 2021. Keep in mind that we have never experienced a situation like this, and that everything will depend on how everything evolves.
